NEWS DESKThe European Union (EU) today (6 June) said it has consistently supported Bangladesh's political transition, calling for it to be underpinned by the rule of law, fundamental rights and lead to democratic elections.
"This is a pivotal moment," said the EU Embassy in Dhaka as Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, in a televised address to the nation this evening, announced that the next national election will be held some time in the first half of April 2026.
The EU called on all stakeholders to engage constructively in this process and to take forward work to define an ambitious reform agenda that will lead to a more stable, more prosperous and democratic Bangladesh.
