NEWS DESKBangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced that it will hold a ‘National Rally’ on Saturday, July 19 at 2:00 PM at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.
The rally aims to press for several key demands ahead of the upcoming national elections, including the establishment of a level playing field to ensure free, fair, neutral, and peaceful polls. Other demands include justice for past massacres, implementation of necessary political reforms, enforcement of the July Charter and Declaration, rehabilitation of the families of those killed and injured in the July uprising, conducting national elections under a proportional representation (PR) system, and ensuring voting rights for expatriates.
Ahead of the rally, a preparatory meeting of the National Rally Implementation Committee was held on Wednesday at the party’s central office in Maghbazar, Dhaka. The meeting was presided over by Jamaat’s Secretary General and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Parwar.
During the meeting, various tasks assigned to sub-committees for organizing the event were reviewed. The leaders called upon all levels of Jamaat activists and the general public to participate in the rally peacefully and make it a success.
Prominent Jamaat leaders who attended the meeting include Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Executive Committee Member Mobarak Hossain, Dhaka City South and North Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul and Md. Selim Uddin, respective secretaries Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud and Dr. Rezaul Karim, Assistant Secretaries Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, Md. Yasin Arafat, and Kamal Hossain.
Also present were Advocate Atikur Rahman, Secretary General of Bangladesh Labour Welfare Federation, and Nurul Islam Saddam, Secretary General of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
