CA Yunus-Led Consensus Commission to Meet Political Parties Today

The first meeting of the National Consensus Commission with the political parties on the recommendations submitted by the six key reform commissions will be held this afternoon (15 February).

The interim government's Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, also the chairman of the commission, will speak at the meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital between 3pm and 5pm, according to the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.

Ahammad Foyez, senior assistant press secretary to the chief adviser, told The Business Standard that only the parties that participated in the previous meetings will be present today.

He also said that the key points of discussion would include reforms and national unity against fascism.

A BNP delegation, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will join the meeting, BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan told reporters.

A Jamaat-e-Islami delegation, led by Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, will attend the meeting, the party's Dhaka North unit Publicity and Media Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Sarkar told TBS.

In separate media statements, Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Khelafat Majlis confirmed that senior leaders of both parties will join the meeting.

Representatives from other political parties are also expected to attend the meeting.

Earlier, the interim government formed the seven-member National Consensus Commission to review and adopt the recommendations submitted by six reform commissions.

The Consensus Commission will discuss the recommendations of the reform commissions with the political parties to reach a consensus on many political, constitutional, and electoral reform agendas.

The other members of the Consensus Commission are Prof Ali Riaz, head of the Constitution Reform Commission; Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of the Public Administration Reform Commission; Safar Raj Hossain, head of the Police Reform Commission; Badiul Alam Majumder, head of Electoral Reform Commission; Justice Emdadul Haque, head of Judiciary Reform Commission; and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, head of Anti-Corruption Reform Commission.

The Consensus Commission aims to complete its consensus-building tasks within six months, starting today. The Chief Adviser's Office is providing secretarial service to the commission.
