NEWS DESKFlight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have been resumed from 9:00 PM Bangladesh Standard Time (BST), according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
In a press release signed by the Ministry's Information and Public Relations Officer, Tariqul Islam, it was confirmed that operations were suspended earlier due to a fire at the airport’s cargo village at 2:15 PM.
The release further stated that the fire service and airport authorities took swift and coordinated action to bring the blaze under full control. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident. The ministry assured the public that, in close coordination with the fire service and airport authorities, the fire was completely extinguished. Flight operations resumed at 9:00 PM following the situation's stabilization.
The ministry's adviser has personally been on-site at the airport to closely monitor the entire situation. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, in collaboration with relevant agencies, is conducting all necessary activities to ensure the smooth resumption of services.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has already been initiated. The authorities will identify the source of the fire and take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
The ministry also expressed its sincere gratitude to passengers and the general public for their cooperation and patience during this period.
