A delegation from Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) paid a courtesy call on Germany’s newly appointed Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr Rüdiger Lotz, at the German Embassy in Dhaka on Monday.
The meeting took place at the special invitation of the ambassador.
During the meeting, the two sides held fruitful discussions on a range of topics, including bilateral relations between Germany and Bangladesh, the prevailing political situation, the upcoming national election, Islami Andolan’s political stance, and prospects for strengthening trade and mutual cooperation.
The IAB delegation praised Germany’s proportional representation (PR) electoral system for its effectiveness. In response, Ambassador Rüdiger Lotz stated, “Germany will continue to respect and support whichever electoral system the people of Bangladesh prefer.”
The delegation also expressed deep appreciation to the German government for providing higher education opportunities to a large number of Bangladeshi students.
During the discussion, Ambassador Rüdiger Lotz expressed interest in visiting the Islami Andolan Bangladesh office, but has not yet been able to do so due to time constraints, he hopes to make it in the near future.
In a gesture of goodwill, the delegation invited the ambassador to attend the Charmonai Mahfil, one of the largest Islamic gatherings in Bangladesh. The delegation informed him that a German Member of Parliament had previously attended the event several years ago.
The Islami Andolan Bangladesh delegation included Engineer Ashraful Alam, joint secretary general, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Golam Mosih, former ambassador, Imtiaz Ahmed Sajal, international affairs secretary, Islami Jubo Andolan, Md Rajon Sikder, member secretary, sub-committee on International Affairs, Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
