Residents of Dhaka felt another earthquake this afternoon. Rubaiyat Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of the Earthquake Monitoring Center at the Department of Meteorology, reported that the tremor occurred at 4:15:20 PM Bangladesh time.
According to Rubaiyat Kabir, the earthquake measured 3.6 on the Richter scale. It was a minor tremor, with its epicenter located in Ghorashal, Narsingdi.
This comes after four earthquakes were recorded in Dhaka and nearby areas within just 31 hours on Friday (21 November) and the following Saturday. Among these, a stronger tremor measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck Madhabdi in Narsingdi, approximately 25 kilometers from Dhaka, on Friday morning. The epicenter of that quake was 10 kilometers below the surface. The incident caused 10 deaths and left more than 600 people injured.
Even today, the earthquake that happened to occur was in Palash, Narsingdi, very close to Dhaka. Out of the six earthquakes, three of them originated in Narsingdi. This area is the junction of the Burma Plate and the western Indian Plate, or the subduction zone. Its area is vast. The earthquake that occurred in Sylhet and Teknaf today is also included in this subduction zone.
