Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Towhid Hossain has said that the Bangladesh government has no official information confirming that India will extradite former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal first among the individuals facing charges in Bangladesh.

He made the remarks on Monday at a session titled “Bangladesh’s Foreign Policy: Defining a Relevant Role in a Changing World,” organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club.

“I have no such information. There is no official confirmation,” Towhid Hossain said when asked whether Kamal would be the first to be extradited from India.

Earlier, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated in a Facebook post on Friday that he was “almost certain” India would soon extradite Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to Bangladesh. He suggested that the process might begin with Kamal and could later include Sheikh Hasina or other Awami League leaders residing abroad.

On 17 November, Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal handed down death sentences to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in a case related to the killings in July—classified in the verdict as crimes against humanity.

Following the ruling, Bangladesh’s High Commission in New Delhi recently sent a diplomatic note to India’s Ministry of External Affairs requesting the extradition of Sheikh Hasina.

However, despite public claims suggesting imminent action, the Foreign Affairs Adviser reiterated that no formal confirmation has been received regarding India’s response or the order in which any extradition might occur.
