Mufti Saifullah returns as Imam of Sholakia Eidgah after 16 years

Sholakia Eidgah Ground Committee President and Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Khan has reinstated Mufti Abul Khair Muhammad Saifullah as the Imam of Kishoreganj’s historic Sholakia Eidgah Ground after 16 years.

This decision was taken at a preparatory meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr congregational celebration at the historic Sholakia Eidgah Ground on Sunday morning, March 2.

It is learned that Mufti A. K. M Saifullah had been performing his duties with distinction as the Imam of Sholakia Eidgah from 2004 to 2009. On September 2, 2009, under pressure from some local Awami League leaders, the then Deputy Commissioner removed the legitimate Imam Mufti A. K. M Saifullah. Along with this, the rights of the Motawalli were also snatched away. Without paying attention to the Waqf document, the then District Administrator appointed Islahul Muslimeen Parishad Chairman Maulana Farid Uddin Masud as the Imam.

At that time, tension and anger were created among the local residents and worshippers regarding this. In view of this, the administration deployed a large number of police and RAB as well as BGB to control the Eid Jamaat.

Meanwhile, after the fall of the Awami League government, Maulana Farid Uddin Masud is the 6th accused in a murder case filed at the Rampura Police Station in the capital on September 3 last year.

In this situation, demands have been raised from various quarters to change the Imam of the Sholakia Eidgah ground.

It is worth noting that before Mufti A. K. M. Chaifullah, his father Maulana A. K. M. Nurullah served as the unpaid Imam of the Sholakia Eidgah for 30 consecutive years.
