Ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Maulana Mamunul Haque, has alleged that a recent statement by former interim government adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan clearly indicates that there was an attempt from within the government to interfere in the electoral process and alter the people’s mandate.

He made the remarks on Saturday while presiding over a regular meeting of the party’s Central Executive Council at its central office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka.

During the meeting, he also announced that the party will hold a mass rally on April 24 at Suhrawardy Udyan demanding the implementation of the people’s verdict through a referendum, accusing the government led by Bangladesh Nationalist Party of showing reluctance in this regard.

Mamunul Haque said that various allegations and information emerging after the recently concluded 13th National Parliamentary Election suggest that the election had been “engineered in a planned manner.” He referred to a media statement by former interim government adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, in which she reportedly acknowledged that Islamic political parties had not been allowed to enter the mainstream political arena. According to him, the statement effectively amounts to an admission of a collective decision to influence the election.

He further alleged that the government has shown visible reluctance to implement the referendum verdict following the election. Filing a writ petition in the High Court to cancel the referendum, he said, reflects disregard for public opinion and contradicts the spirit of the “student–people uprising of 2024.”

Addressing the government, Mamunul Haque demanded immediate implementation of the referendum verdict. He also called for a judicial investigation to identify and expose those who allegedly manipulated the people’s voting rights or were involved in administrative or political conspiracies to influence the election.

Without such measures, he warned, public confidence in the country’s electoral system cannot be restored.

Commenting on the situation in Iran, Mamunul Haque condemned what he described as ongoing joint military attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, calling them a “serious violation of international law and state sovereignty.” He urged the United Nations and the international community to take effective steps to stop the aggression and hold Israel accountable.

He also said that lasting peace in the Middle East requires an end to aggression and occupation politics, along with ensuring the legitimate rights of Muslims, including the people of Palestine.

The meeting was conducted by the party’s Secretary General, Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmad. Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Yusuf Ashraf, Joint Secretary General Maulana Ataullah Amin, and Organizing Secretary Maulana Azizur Rahman Helal, among others, were also present.
