The information was confirmed on Sunday in a statement issued by the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police.
The arrested individuals are Rahul, also known as Faisal Karim Masud, and Alamgir Hossain. Faisal Karim Masud, 37, is a resident of Patuakhali, while 34-year-old Alamgir Hossain is from Dhaka. According to the STF, the arrests were made based on specific intelligence.
Quoting West Bengal Police, the Indian news agency ANI reported that the two men illegally entered India after committing serious crimes in Bangladesh, including extortion and murder. They had been hiding in the Bongaon border area and were reportedly waiting for an opportunity to return to Bangladesh. A special police team conducted an operation and arrested them.
STF sources said cases have been filed against the accused under relevant legal provisions. They were produced before a local court on Sunday, where police sought remand. After the hearing, the court granted 14 days of remand.
It is worth noting that on December 12, 2025, unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on Sharif Osman Hadi in the Paltan area of Dhaka, leaving him critically injured. He later died on December 18 at around 9:30 pm while undergoing treatment in Singapore.
