Prime Minister Tarique Rahman conferred the prestigious "Independence Award" upon this year's recipients in a grand ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
Addressing the event as the chief guest on Thursday (April 16), the Prime Minister warned the nation about a vested quarter that continues to seek opportunities to act against the country's interests. He emphasized that maintaining national solidarity and avoiding internal divisions is the most critical need of the hour. He further advised that while political differences may exist, they must never escalate into hostility toward the nation.
During his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of recognizing the contributions of national leaders beyond partisan views. He remarked that failing to accept historical truths is a sign of an inferiority complex and warned that future generations would not judge such bias kindly. Quoting Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, he reiterated, "National unity is our strength; division is our weakness." This year, 15 distinguished individuals and 5 organizations were honored with the highest state award for their remarkable contributions to fields such as education, science, and public service. Reflecting on 55 years of independence, he concluded that collective effort and the rejection of vengeful politics are essential to building a truly prosperous and self-reliant Bangladesh.
