A national rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has begun at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, calling for the implementation of the people’s verdict from a referendum.

The event, held on Saturday, brought together families of those killed in the July movement and participants referred to as “July fighters.”

The rally officially began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Qari Enayet Ullah Saifi, followed by a translation by Sharif Bayzid Mahmud. Islamic songs were performed by artist Mashiur Rahman.

In his opening speech, July movement participant Kamrul Hasan called for the implementation of the “July Charter” without any changes. He warned that if the document is altered in any way, protesters would once again surround parliament.

The gathering is being attended by senior leaders of Jamaat, including party chief Shafiqur Rahman and Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, along with central and city-level leaders. Representatives from an 11-party alliance, members of parliament, and leaders from various student unions are also present.

Family members of those killed in the July movement, as well as injured and disabled participants, have joined the rally from across the country, making it a major political gathering focused on demands for justice and recognition.
