Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Humayun Kabir are set to begin a three-day official visit to Russia tomorrow, where they are expected to hold discussions on bilateral relations, energy cooperation, trade, and international issues.

A source from the Foreign Affairs Adviser’s office confirmed that the delegation will depart from Dhaka on Sunday at around 10:00 AM local time, bound for Moscow.

Diplomatic sources said that on the second day of the visit, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman is likely to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He is also expected to meet several senior officials of the Russian government during the trip.

This marks Dr. Rahman’s first official foreign visit following his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly. The discussions are expected to include preparations for the upcoming UN General Assembly session as well as broader international developments alongside bilateral matters.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir said Bangladesh’s recent election to the UN General Assembly presidency was achieved through a short three-month campaign and represented a “remarkable diplomatic success.”

He added that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, Bangladesh aims to maintain a balanced foreign policy and strengthen relations with all countries in line with national interests.

Referring to Bangladesh’s longstanding ties with Russia, Kabir said the relationship would continue to deepen through cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels, particularly in energy, trade, and strategic dialogue.
