U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen visited the Teesta Barrage, the country's largest irrigation project, on Sunday as part of a three-day tour of northern Bangladesh.

The ambassador arrived at the Teesta Barrage in Dimla, Nilphamari, at around 12:00 p.m. Bangladesh time on the first day of his visit. During the tour, he inspected the current condition of the Teesta River, including its navigability challenges and the ongoing operations of the irrigation project.

Following the site visit, Ambassador Christensen held a brief meeting with local officials from the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB).

During the discussion, officials briefed the ambassador on key issues related to the management of the Teesta River, ongoing river restoration efforts, and the impact of dry-season water shortages on local farmers who depend on the river for irrigation.

The visit forms part of the ambassador's broader engagement with northern Bangladesh, focusing on water resource management and the challenges facing communities in the Teesta basin.
