Multi-Party and Parliamentary Democracy Came Through the Hands of BNP: PM Tarique Rahman

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that the BNP not only restored multi-party democracy, but parliamentary democracy was also introduced through this party. He made these remarks on Tuesday when Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretary General Martin Chungong (Anda Philip) paid a courtesy call on him at the Prime Minister's Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The meeting was later briefed by Shahadat Swadhin, Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister noted that following a long struggle, the sacrifice of numerous activists through enforced disappearances and killings, and fabricated cases against nearly 4 million party members, a democratic path was successfully restored through the February 12 election. He added that the current administration is working to protect the constitutional rights of every citizen and ensure essential public services. The IPU Secretary highly praised the Prime Minister, noting that his regular participation in parliamentary sessions reflects a strong commitment to parliamentary democracy.

The IPU Secretary mentioned that he had read the BNP’s election manifesto and commended its initiatives in the education sector and community-based programs. Highlighting women's empowerment as a top priority of his government, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman shared plans to introduce free education for women up to the honors level, stipends for female students, and the "Family Card" project to make women financially self-reliant. State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 Humayun Kabir and State Minister for Foreign Affairs-2 Shama Obed Islam were present during the meeting.
