An Additional Deputy Inspector General (Addl. DIG) of Police, Abdullah Al Zahir, has been withdrawn from his post following a major raid at a property owned by him in the Kalni area of Rupganj, Purbachal.
Detective Branch (DB) officers arrested 85 individuals—59 men and 26 women—and seized a significant stash of liquor, beer, shisha, and synthetic drugs during an overnight operation that extended into Tuesday afternoon. Authorities revealed that the residence was being rented out online and secretly promoted via social media as a venue for illegal nightlife gatherings and drug consumption.
Responding to the allegations, the police officer claimed that the premises were rented under strict contractual terms for a private birthday event, which explicitly prohibited illegal substances, overcrowding, or illicit activities. He emphasized that the financial and legal liability for any violations falls squarely on the tenants who breached the lease agreements and identity verification protocols. Detective officials confirmed that full-scale inspections and evidence collection have been completed, with further legal proceedings currently underway.
