Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has assured that efforts are underway to simplify the visa process for Bangladeshi citizens, particularly those seeking medical treatment in India.
He made the assurance on Thursday during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the Indian Media Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (IMCAB), at the conference room of the Indian High Commission in Baridhara, Dhaka.
The delegation was led by IMCAB President Shaheen Chowdhury and included General Secretary Masum Billah and other members of the organisation's executive committee.
During the meeting, delegation members raised concerns about difficulties faced by Bangladeshi applicants in obtaining Indian visas.
Trivedi said the High Commission was examining the problems associated with the visa application process and taking steps to make it easier for people travelling to India for medical treatment.
He said officials were trying to understand why applicants often face delays in securing appointments to submit their applications in person after completing the online application process.
The high commissioner expressed hope that the problem would be resolved soon.
Emphasising the importance of people-to-people contacts between the two neighbouring countries, Trivedi said increased travel between Bangladesh and India would help strengthen friendship and mutual understanding.
He also enquired about the personal well-being of the IMCAB members during the meeting.
Other members of the delegation included Basudeb Dhar, Kuddus Afrad, Mir Afroz Zaman, Abu Ali, Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, Nirmal Chakraborty, Zakir Hossain and Monir Hossain.
First Secretary of the Indian High Commission Gokul V.K. was also present at the meeting.
