Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the country's ambassador to Japan, Md Daud Ali, not to participate in Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's upcoming visit to Japan, scheduled for October 26–29.
A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the media that Daud Ali was recently instructed to return to Dhaka from Tokyo. He has since returned to Bangladesh and has been staying in the capital for about a week.
In the ambassador's absence, Foreign Secretary (East and West) Md Nazrul Islam will oversee preparations and arrangements for the prime minister's visit, according to the source.
Nazrul Islam travelled to Tokyo on Wednesday and is expected to remain there until the prime minister's visit concludes.
A government official described the recall of an ambassador ahead of a high-level visit as an unusual occurrence but said they could not confirm the reason behind the decision.
The official confirmed that Daud Ali had been instructed to return to Bangladesh and had complied with the directive.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not been quoted as providing an official explanation for the ambassador's recall.
