New political party by students proclaims in February.

Students will announce their new political party within this month, says National Citizen’s Committee’s Joint Member Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun.

“We’re steadily implementing our goal of forming a party. We’ve already held talks with students and people who participated in the July uprising,” he said after submitting a memorandum at the Narayanganj deputy commissioner’s office today (February 2).

“We’ll float our party within February,” he said.

A student-led mass movement toppled the Awami League regime on August 5 last year. An interim government headed by Dr Yunus took office three days later. It has promised to arrange a free and fair election after necessary reforms.

Meanwhile, the BNP said it would welcome the new political party the students are forming.

BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the BNP would cooperate with the students. “We will work shoulder to shoulder to hold a free and fair election," he said Saturday.
