Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia is prepared to supply energy to India “without interruption.” He made the statement on Friday during a joint press conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, the state guest residence in New Delhi. Earlier, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting.

At the start of the press conference, Putin thanked Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi for their “warm welcome.” Describing his talks with Modi, he said the discussions were “constructive” and held in a “friendly atmosphere.” He added that the two leaders maintain “regular” phone contact whenever necessary.

Putin described the agreements reached between the two countries as “promising.” Several new deals were announced at the beginning of the press conference, aimed at strengthening cooperation in trade and agriculture. Putin expressed satisfaction with the negotiations and also welcomed the growing use of national currencies in bilateral trade. He further announced Russia’s continued support for India’s largest nuclear power project.

On energy, Putin reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to supply oil and other resources to India “without interruption.” Washington, however, has been pressuring New Delhi to reduce purchases of Russian energy, accusing India of indirectly supporting Moscow’s war in Kyiv. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods.

Putin arrived in New Delhi on Thursday evening for a two-day visit and was received by Prime Minister Modi at Palam Airport. He is expected to depart India around 9 p.m. tonight.
