Benjamin Netanyahu, the longest-serving prime minister in Israel’s history, has publicly disclosed for the first time that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent treatment.

The 76-year-old leader made the revelation Friday while releasing his annual medical report, stating that he had been receiving treatment since December 2024.

Netanyahu said he had kept the diagnosis private to prevent Iran from using the information for political propaganda or as a strategic advantage.

According to the statement, Netanyahu underwent surgery in December after experiencing an enlarged prostate. While his office had confirmed the procedure at the time, it did not disclose the cancer diagnosis.

In a post on social media following his latest medical evaluation, he said doctors had identified a malignant tumor measuring less than one centimeter in his prostate. However, recent tests have shown no signs of remaining cancerous cells or infection.

Alongside his statement, two official letters from his physicians were released, confirming that the cancer was detected at a very early stage and had not spread to other parts of the body. After treatment, he is now considered fully recovered.

“I am now healthy by the grace of God. What I had was a minor medical issue that has been completely resolved,” Netanyahu said.

He also explained that the delay in disclosing the diagnosis was intentional, aimed at ensuring that Iran and its allies could not portray the situation as a sign of weakness, particularly amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Following medical clearance, Netanyahu said he chose to make the announcement in the interest of maintaining political and state stability. His office confirmed that he is currently performing his official duties in full capacity.
