Two Workers Rescued Alive After 9 Days in Flooded Nepal Tunnel

Emergency response teams in Nepal have rescued two hydro plant workers alive after being trapped underground for nine days following catastrophic flash floods, military authorities confirmed on Friday.

The survivors, identified as Sanjay Shah and Kabir Maharjan, were extracted from a mud-filled tunnel 170 meters deep at the damaged Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project after army rescuers heard voices echoing from the shaft. Both workers were immediately transported to a military medical facility for emergency care.

The disaster, triggered by a massive glacial outburst on August 26, has claimed at least 1,252 lives to date. Local authorities report that around 900 workers remain missing across 12 hydroelectric facilities in the region, with approximately 500 feared still trapped in submerged tunnels as search operations continue.
