Hormuz Tensions Rise as Iran, US Trade Strikes

Tensions have escalated near the Strait of Hormuz as Iran and the United States traded attacks, raising fresh concerns over security in one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is accused of firing ballistic missiles at two US naval vessels. In response, the United States said it carried out strikes on three Iranian oil tankers.

US Central Command chief Brad Cooper warned that Iran would face a stronger retaliation if it attacked US naval vessels.

Iran, meanwhile, claimed its forces had struck three US-linked tankers as well as three other vessels associated with the United States.

The IRGC Navy has also warned other countries using the Strait of Hormuz, urging them to remain within authorised waterways and avoid suspicious activities.

No casualties have been reported so far from the latest exchange of attacks.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial global energy corridor and has long been a flashpoint in tensions between Iran and the United States. The latest escalation has heightened concerns over commercial shipping and the stability of international energy supplies.

Diplomatic efforts are underway internationally to prevent further escalation and end the conflict. However, the renewed confrontation around the Strait of Hormuz has made efforts to ease tensions more difficult.
