Gaibandha-5 Member of Parliament and freedom fighter Md. Abdul Warez paid deep tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during a speech in the Jatiya Sangsad, while also honoring Ziaur Rahman and Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani.

He made the remarks on Thursday while participating in the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address.

At the beginning of his speech, Warez remembered Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as one of the key figures of Bangladesh’s independence. He also expressed respect for Ziaur Rahman, referring to him as the proclaimer of independence, and paid tribute to Maulana Bhashani, recalling his historic political stance ahead of independence.

However, the MP raised objections regarding the constitutional recognition of the declaration of independence. Addressing the Home Minister, he stated that although the Constitution is being interpreted appropriately, it still contains what he described as a “major inaccuracy” by recognizing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the declarer of independence. He strongly criticized this and demanded that Ziaur Rahman be officially recorded in Parliament as the declarer of independence within the current tenure.

Highlighting issues in his constituency, Warez said several union under Saghata and Fulchhari upazilas are severely affected by erosion caused by the Jamuna River. He urged the government to strengthen river management efforts and construct permanent embankments urgently.

He also called for the construction of a second Jamuna bridge from Fulchhari to Bahadurabad, stating that it would boost industrialization and facilitate the transportation of agricultural goods. According to him, such a project would help fully operationalize Bonarpara Railway Junction and local healthcare facilities.

Addressing the healthcare sector, the MP pointed out a severe shortage of staff in Saghata and Fulchhari health complexes, with many vacant positions. He urged immediate recruitment to normalize services.

Additionally, Warez demanded the establishment of an agricultural university and a medical college in Gaibandha to support regional development.
