Iran has announced that it will not send any delegation to Pakistan for negotiations unless the United States lifts its ongoing naval blockade. The development was reported by the state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency.
According to the report, Tehran has made its position clear: no discussions will take place as long as the naval blockade imposed under former U.S. President Donald Trump remains in effect. Iranian officials stated that there is currently no plan to engage in talks while the blockade continues.
The United States began enforcing the strict naval blockade on Iran earlier this week. The Trump administration claims the restrictions are fully operational, targeting vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports. Officials estimate that the blockade is causing Iran daily revenue losses of approximately $400 million.
Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President JD Vance had been expected to lead the American delegation in a second round of talks with Iran, similar to the previous round. However, it has now been confirmed that Vance will not travel to Pakistan due to security concerns.
When asked about the decision, President Trump stated in an interview that Vance’s absence was solely due to safety issues, though he did not provide further details.
In a recent social media post, Trump also mentioned that U.S. representatives have already departed for Pakistan to engage in discussions with Iran.
