U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to invoke the controversial 'Insurrection Act' to deploy federal troops in Minnesota following escalating protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The unrest was sparked by two separate shooting incidents involving ICE agents, which have left the state in a state of turmoil.

On Thursday, President Trump criticized Minnesota's Democratic leadership for failing to protect "patriotic ICE members" from "insurrectionists." The tensions reached a boiling point after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole McLean Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and mother of three, during an ICE raid. Despite her clear record, the administration labeled her an "internal terrorist," fueling nationwide outrage. A second shooting of a Venezuelan migrant on Wednesday further intensified the demonstrations.

Currently, around 3,000 masked ICE agents in tactical gear are patrolling Minneapolis. Authorities have used flash-bang grenades and tear gas to disperse crowds, while reports of harassment against Black and Latino residents have surfaced. Trump’s hardline stance on mass deportations and his derogatory remarks regarding Minnesota’s Somali community have significantly heightened the political and social divide in the region.
