The UN Security Council’s emergency session on Iran’s crisis turned into a diplomatic battlefield on Thursday (January 15), as representatives from Washington and Tehran engaged in a sharp exchange of words. The meeting was called following ongoing unrest in Iran and military threats issued by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Iran's Deputy Permanent Representative, Gholamhossein Darzi, accused the United States of inciting domestic instability within Iran. He emphasized that while Tehran does not seek conflict, it remains fully prepared to provide a "decisive and legal response" under Article 51 of the UN Charter in the event of any aggression. Darzi labeled U.S. threats as illegal and held Washington responsible for the potential consequences.

In response, U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz dismissed Iran's claims of foreign conspiracy as a sign of government weakness. He criticized the internet blackout in Iran, stating it was a tactic to hide mass suppression. Waltz warned that President Trump is a "man of action" who has kept all options—including military intervention—on the table to stop the violence. He concluded by asserting that the Iranian regime is currently at its weakest, fearing the power of its own citizens.
