Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it destroyed a US fighter jet near the country’s southwestern border, a claim the United States has dismissed as false.
According to a report by the Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera on Thursday, citing Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim News Agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had targeted and destroyed a US F-15E fighter aircraft.
The IRGC reportedly stated that the two-seat fighter jet was “targeted and destroyed” near Iran’s southwestern frontier. However, the statement did not specify when the incident allegedly occurred.
The aircraft mentioned in the claim is the McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle, a twin-seat, all-weather strike fighter used by the United States military for deep strike and ground-attack missions.
The United States military has strongly rejected the claim. In a post on X, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said reports circulating on social media suggesting that an F-15E was destroyed in Iran on Wednesday morning are “baseless and untrue.”
CENTCOM added that the claims spreading online do not reflect any real incident involving US aircraft.
No independent verification of the Iranian claim has been reported so far.
