The incident took place Wednesday during a hearing of the United States Senate Armed Services Committee subcommittee at United States Capitol, where top military officials were testifying.
According to reports, McGinnis suddenly stood up during the session and shouted slogans in support of Iran while accusing Israel of being responsible for the war.
After the outburst, three officers from the United States Capitol Police attempted to remove him from the chamber. During the confrontation, McGinnis reportedly grabbed the door and shouted that “no one wants to fight on behalf of Israel.”
The situation escalated into a physical struggle involving the officers and Tim Sheehy. Video footage showed that during the scuffle McGinnis’s right arm appeared to break, while colleagues in the room reacted with alarm.
McGinnis later acknowledged that he had suffered a serious injury to his left arm.
Senator Sheehy later wrote on X that he had stepped in to help calm the situation, claiming McGinnis had come to the Capitol intending to provoke a confrontation.
In a statement, Capitol Police said McGinnis had aggressively confronted officers and violently resisted their attempts to remove him. Authorities have filed charges against him including assault, unlawful demonstration, and obstruction of official duties.
