U.S. Vice President JD Vance will not travel to Pakistan to attend the scheduled talks with Iran, citing security concerns, according to President Donald Trump.

The decision marks a last-minute change in plans, as earlier indications suggested that Vance would lead the U.S. delegation in the negotiations set to begin Monday in Islamabad.

Previously, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright had both signaled that Vance would head the delegation for the upcoming round of discussions.

In an interview, President Trump clarified that the vice president’s decision was based “solely on security reasons.” He also described Vance as a highly capable individual while confirming the cancellation of the trip.
