Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned from her position in the administration of Donald Trump, the White House confirmed.
In a statement, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said Chavez-DeRemer stepped down to attend to personal matters. She will be replaced on an interim basis by Keith Sonderling, who will serve as acting Labor Secretary.
Following her resignation, Chavez-DeRemer expressed gratitude to President Trump and said she would continue working in support of American workers.
However, reports indicate that despite citing personal reasons, she had been under investigation over multiple allegations. Among the most serious claims was an alleged attempt to engage in an inappropriate relationship with an employee within her department. Additionally, her husband has faced serious accusations of sexual harassment involving female staff members, leading to a ban on his entry to the Labor Department headquarters.
The resignation adds to ongoing scrutiny surrounding leadership and conduct within the administration.
