Donald Trump has issued further statements on the ongoing maritime standoff with Iran via his platform Truth Social.

In his latest post, Trump said Iran does not actually want to keep the Strait of Hormuz closed. Instead, he claimed, Tehran prefers to keep the waterway open to generate significant daily revenue.

“Iran doesn’t want to close the Strait of Hormuz; they want it open so they can make $500 million a day (so if it’s closed, that’s exactly how much they lose!),” he wrote.

Trump further alleged that Iran’s statements about wanting to close the strait are an attempt to “save face,” claiming that the situation is effectively under his control.

“They only say they want to close it because I have it completely blocked (closed!), so they just want to protect their image,” he added.

He also stated that officials had recently approached him with claims that Iran was eager to reopen the route.

“Four days ago, people came to me and said, ‘Sir, Iran wants to open the strait immediately,’” Trump wrote.

Trump concluded with a controversial remark, suggesting that no agreement with Iran would be possible unless extreme measures were taken, including targeting the country’s leadership—an assertion likely to draw strong international reaction.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, and tensions surrounding it continue to raise concerns over global energy security and stability.
