U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he has not yet met Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, but would be willing to do so if the opportunity arises.

Speaking on a popular podcast hosted by the New York Post on Wednesday, Trump said that Mojtaba Khamenei is involved in the ongoing discussions between the United States and Iran. He noted that Khamenei is highly respected by many Iranians and suggested that a future meeting remains possible.

“I have not had the chance to meet Mojtaba,” Trump said. “But if the stories being reported are true, he may have suffered significant injuries and possibly lost some limbs.”

When asked whether there was any possibility of meeting the Iranian leader, Trump responded positively.

“Yes, I would like to meet him,” Trump said. “I like meeting people. I would like to meet Mojtaba as well. Perhaps at some point in the future I will. But everything depends on how the entire process—our negotiations and any potential agreement—develops.”

Trump also emphasized that Khamenei is involved in the ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran and suggested that the prospects for a meeting would depend on progress in those negotiations.
