Trump Draws Attention at World Cup Final Trophy Ceremony

It is no secret that President Donald Trump enjoys being at the centre of attention. He appeared to maintain that reputation during the trophy presentation ceremony following the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, attempting to remain in the camera frame for as long as possible.

Even as Spain celebrated its World Cup triumph on stage, Trump managed to remain in the frame for quite some time.

After handing the World Cup trophy to Spain captain Rodri, Trump took a considerable amount of time to leave the camera’s view. Rodri initially gave him a subtle signal to move aside. However, the situation eventually reached a point where FIFA President Gianni Infantino had to intervene and lead Trump away.

The incident appeared awkward. It seemed that Trump wanted to remain on stage with the Spanish players and be part of their World Cup celebrations. Rodri appeared visibly uncomfortable with Trump’s presence and signalled for him to leave the area.

Even then, Trump took a significant amount of time to move away, delaying Spain’s celebrations on the stage. Eventually, Infantino took Trump by the arm and led him towards one corner of the stage. However, Trump continued to stand directly beside the last Spanish player and appeared reluctant to leave the stage completely. A video of the incident has also emerged.

Meanwhile, another video circulating on social media appeared to show that there was no handshake between Argentina defender Cristian Romero and Donald Trump. The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media.

After Spain won the World Cup on Sunday, Trump and FIFA chief Gianni Infantino were also met with loud boos from spectators when they entered the field for the trophy presentation ceremony.

During the match, Trump watched the game sitting beside his close friend Infantino. In front of a star-studded crowd of 80,000 spectators at the venue outside New York, Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1–0 to win the World Cup title.
