New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that his municipal administration lacks the independent legal authority to enforce the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a video message released Tuesday, Mamdani explained that a thorough review confirmed local authorities cannot execute the warrant on their own, prompting him to call upon the American federal government to join the ICC framework and take appropriate enforcement measures.
Mayor Mamdani reiterated his alignment with the ICC's decision, emphasizing that anyone responsible for war crimes should face justice in court. His statements follow recent assurances from President Donald Trump, who stated that Netanyahu will not face arrest when attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York this September. In response, Netanyahu's office dismissed Mamdani's remarks and reiterated its position rejecting the ICC's legitimacy.
