Several job opportunities remain open for applications across New York City government agencies, public schools and private-sector employers, with vacancies available in corrections, police communications, education, retail and food services.
As of Wednesday, a number of recruitment notices were still active on the city’s government jobs portal, New York City Public Schools and various employers’ career pages.
According to the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), applications are open for the Correction Officer position under Exam No. 7302 through October 27. There is no application fee for the exam.
Correction officers are responsible for maintaining security at New York City correctional facilities, supervising detainees and helping manage day-to-day facility operations. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the official examination notice.
Applications are also open for the Police Communications Technician position under Exam No. 7307, with an application deadline of October 13. The position with the New York Police Department involves answering 911 calls, gathering emergency information and dispatching police resources.
The current starting salary for the Police Communications Technician position is $51,790 per year. The application fee is $68, although certain categories of applicants may qualify for a fee waiver.
The DCAS open competitive examination schedule also includes positions such as Police Officer and Special Officer with NYC Health + Hospitals. Eligibility requirements and application deadlines vary by position, and applicants are advised to review the relevant Notice of Examination carefully before applying.
New York City Public Schools is also recruiting for various school-based positions for the 2026-27 academic year. Openings, including School Aide positions, are listed at schools across the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island.
At East Bronx Academy for the Future in the Bronx, a School Aide recruitment notice states that applicants are not required to have a high school diploma or GED.
However, applicants are expected to have a strong attendance record, demonstrate punctuality, work effectively with teachers and other school staff, and interact responsibly with students.
School Aides typically assist teachers with non-instructional duties, supervise students during arrival and dismissal, help maintain order in lunchrooms, distribute books and educational materials, and provide basic clerical assistance.
Working hours can vary by school. According to the posting, the position may involve at least four hours of work per day, five days a week. Applications may remain open until the position is filled.
Selected candidates will be required to undergo fingerprinting and a background check before employment.
