US State Department says cancellations were carried out faster than under any previous administration, citing law violations, fraud and national security concerns

The administration of US President Donald Trump has revoked more than 300,000 visas issued to foreign nationals, the US State Department said, claiming the cancellations were carried out at a faster pace than under any previous administration.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott announced the figure in a post on social media platform X on Tuesday.

Pigott said visas had been revoked from foreign nationals residing in the United States who had violated the law, engaged in fraud or posed threats to national security.

He added that the administration would not tolerate foreign nationals violating US laws, committing fraud or undermining national security while staying in the country on visas. Such measures would continue as part of efforts to secure the country's borders and protect national security, he said.

According to the State Department, the number of revoked visas had exceeded 175,000 by August. Earlier in January this year, the department announced that more than 100,000 visas had been cancelled, describing the figure at the time as a record.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has also tightened its policies on issuing new visas. The measures include closer scrutiny of applicants' social media activity and expanded security screening procedures.

The latest steps reflect the administration's broader efforts to strengthen immigration enforcement and increase scrutiny of foreign nationals seeking to enter or remain in the United States.
