US President Donald Trump has issued another tough warning against Cuba, saying an American warship could stop off the Cuban coast on its way back from Iran.

Speaking at an election rally in South Florida, Trump said he could send Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Cuba to finalise a deal after the warship's arrival.

Following Trump's remarks, Rubio wrote on social media that “now is the time” to take action against Cuba.

Trump had earlier suggested that Cuba could become Washington's next target after the war with Iran ends, signalling a possible escalation in US pressure on the Caribbean nation.

Cuba has been struggling with a prolonged economic and energy crisis since 2020. Power outages, food shortages and rising prices have placed significant pressure on the country's population of around 10 million, according to various reports.

The worsening situation has triggered repeated protests, while large numbers of Cubans have left the country in search of better living conditions and economic opportunities abroad.

Trump's latest remarks could signal a tougher US approach towards Havana, although details of any potential agreement or military action have not been announced.

The comments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Havana, with Cuba's economic difficulties adding to uncertainty over the country's political and economic future.
