New Committee of America Bangladesh Press Club inaugurated

The inauguration of the newly elected committee of America Bangladesh Press Club, an organization of American expatriate journalists, was held in a grand ceremony. The ceremony began with the rendition of the national anthems of Bangladesh and America at a party hall in Woodside, New York City on the evening of January 31.

In addition to members of the Press Club family, more than a hundred Bangladeshis from different walks of life, including editors of various newspapers and television stations, journalists, businessmen, politicians, lawyers, poets, writers, cultural and social activists, were present at the ceremony.

The guests of the inauguration ceremony, hosted by Farah Hasin and Darpan Kabir, were Consul General of the Bangladesh Consulate in New York, Nazmul Huda, and Editor of Ajkal, Shahnewaz. At the beginning of the ceremony, the chief guest, along with the former and current presidents, general secretaries of the press club, and leaders of the new committee took their seats on the stage. Then, the president of America Bangladesh Press Club, Shawkat Osman Rachi, and general secretary Mashiur Rahman Majumder, delivered welcome speeches.

Shawkat Osman Rachi said in his speech, journalists are the mirror of society, our responsibility is to disseminate accurate information and bring positive changes in society. We will have a deep love for this responsibility, sincerity and work.

General Secretary Mashiur Rahman Majumder said, following immigration policies and related laws in the United States is a complex issue. Our responsibility is to collect accurate information and present it to the public, so that awareness increases in society. Through this club, we will work on social responsibility and journalistic ethics and exchange our professional skills and experiences.

Besides Consul General Nazmul Huda, the event was also attended by Bangladesh Society President Ataur Rahman Selim, Weekly Ajkal Editor Shahnewaz, Attorney Moin Chowdhury, Utsab Group CEO Raihan Zaman, Prothom Alo North America Editor Ibrahim Chowdhury Khokon, America Bangladesh Press Club former president and editor of Weekly Probas Mohammad Sayeed, former president and editor of Deshkanth Darpan Kabir, former General Secretary Manjurul Haque, and Joint Editor Abu Bakar Siddique.
