CA Dr. Yunus to Attend UN's 80th Session with Political Representatives

On the night of September 21, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will depart for New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Joining him on the trip will be representatives from four political parties, including BNP's General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Humayun Kabir, Deputy Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and Akhtar Hossain

This information was shared by Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Touhid Hossain during a briefing at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

The Foreign Affairs Advisor also mentioned that, for the first time, a high-level meeting on the Rohingya issue would be chaired by the UN Secretary-General. This meeting is expected to play a key role in resolving the ongoing Rohingya crisis.

He further noted that Dr. Yunus will address the General Assembly on September 26. In his speech, he will highlight the preparations for the upcoming elections, ongoing reforms based on consensus, and the progress of democratic processes in Bangladesh.

The Foreign Affairs Advisor also pointed out that, given the unique political circumstances in the country, Dr. Yunus will be accompanied by representatives from four political parties during this visit.

Following the session, Dr. Yunus is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on October 2.
