To make the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election more inclusive and to ensure the participation of persons with disabilities, representatives from the UNDP and Sightsavers Equal Bangladesh Campaigns have submitted a 14-point proposal to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

The proposal was presented on Thursday (November 6) at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, during a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner A. M. M. Nasiruddin. Representatives from various organizations working for persons with disabilities, as well as election commissioners and senior officials of the commission, attended the discussion.

The proposals submitted to the CEC include — raising awareness among persons with special needs about postal voting, simplifying and explaining the voter registration process, ensuring safety and accessibility for voters with disabilities at polling centers, introducing a postal voting system for persons with disabilities, ensuring full inclusion of all disabled individuals in the voter registration process, and deploying trained female staff at polling centers to assist women with disabilities.

Representatives expressed optimism that implementing these recommendations would make the upcoming national election more participatory, inclusive, and accessible for all citizens, including those with disabilities.
