The medical board overseeing the treatment of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent MP candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency, has said that his condition remains extremely critical after he was seriously injured in a shooting by assailants.

In its latest update, the medical board said Osman Hadi has sustained severe brain damage. As surgery has already been completed, his condition is now being managed conservatively. Although his kidney function has recovered, his overall condition remains extremely critical.

The information was shared in an official statement issued by the medical board on Saturday.

According to the statement, Osman Hadi was shifted on Friday (12 Dec) from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital following surgery.

Hadi’s brain has been critically damaged. As surgery has been completed, further management will be conservative. A brain protection protocol will be followed alongside all necessary supportive care. If his condition stabilises slightly, a repeat CT scan of the brain may be conducted.

He has sustained lung injuries, and as a small amount of blood is still draining through the chest tube, it will be continued. Ventilator support will also be maintained with close monitoring to prevent lung infection and the development of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).

Hadi’s Kidney function has returned. Fluid balance management will be continued carefully to maintain this improvement.

The imbalance between blood clotting and bleeding (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation – DIC) has largely improved. Continuous monitoring will be required, along with transfusion of blood and blood components as needed.

Due to injury to the brain stem, fluctuations in blood pressure and heart rate are being observed. Blood pressure support will be continued as per the current protocol. If the heart rate drops, a medical team is on standby to install a temporary pacemaker if required.

The medical board expressed heartfelt gratitude to doctors and supportive staff from Dhaka Medical College’s One-Stop Crisis Centre, radiology, ICU, anesthesia, neurosurgery, and other departments for their heroic efforts.

His overall condition remains extremely critical.

The medical board has explained this summary to the patient’s brother and close relatives. They may share updates with the public through the media if they wish. The medical team has requested prayers for their beloved Sharif Osman Hadi.

The public has been requested not to gather at the hospital. No visitors are allowed.

People are urged not to spread assumptions or misinformation and to place their trust in the medical board. Everyone is asked to respect the patient’s privacy and dignity.

The medical team is continuing treatment with the highest level of professionalism and dedication. The medical board and the family have again requested prayers for his recovery.

Osman Hadi was shot by armed assailants on Friday afternoon in the Culvert area of Bijoynagar in the capital.

He was rescued and taken to DMCH at around 2:35pm. Police said Osman Hadi was traveling by rickshaw with another person when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him in the Culvert Road area and fled the scene.

After receiving primary treatment at DMCH, he was transferred later that night to Evercare Hospital for advanced care.
