New information is emerging in the murder case of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and an independent aspirant for the Dhaka-8 parliamentary seat. Investigators believe the killing was meticulously planned over more than six months and carried out in public by gunfire, with the operation coordinated by multiple groups based both inside and outside Bangladesh.

According to investigation sources, the prime suspect shooter, Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Daud, traveled to Singapore on July 21, where he allegedly met with several fugitive leaders of the Awami League. Interrogation findings suggest that the plan was finalized before his return to Bangladesh on July 26. Faisal reportedly entered Singapore presenting himself as an information technology entrepreneur and also held meetings near the Malaysia border.

Additional Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Detective Branch), Md. Shafikul Islam, said Faisal’s travel records have been obtained and the investigation is proceeding accordingly. He added that further details cannot be disclosed at this stage in the interest of the investigation.

Investigators say that after returning to Bangladesh, Faisal hinted to his wife, Saheda Parvin, that circumstances might soon arise making it difficult for him to remain in the country. He reportedly told her that around Tk 3 million had been deposited in a bank account for the family. Similar information emerged during the interrogation of Faisal’s girlfriend, Maria Akter.

On the night before the killing, Faisal, motorcycle rider Alamgir, and Maria spent time together in Madhumati Model Town in Savar. That night, Faisal allegedly told Maria, “Something will happen tomorrow that will shake the country.” Maria has denied any involvement, claiming she had no knowledge of the main incident.

After the murder, Faisal and Alamgir were allegedly helped to flee to India by Taijul Islam Chowdhury (Bappi), organizational secretary of Dhaka North Jubo League and a former Mirpur councilor, along with his brother-in-law Aminul Islam. Police say both have been identified. A broker named Philip Snal reportedly facilitated their escape through the Haluaghat border on the night of the killing. So far, a total of 11 people have been arrested by the Detective Branch and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Inqilab Mancha staged a protest at Shahbagh intersection after Friday prayers yesterday, demanding justice for Hadi’s killing. Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber announced that Shahbagh would be declared “Shaheed Osman Hadi Square” and said the movement would continue until justice is served.

Sharif Osman bin Hadi was shot in the head on December 12 on Box-Calvert Road in Purana Paltan, Dhaka. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore on December 15, where he died on December 18. His body was later brought back to Bangladesh and buried beside the Dhaka University Central Mosque.
