The National Citizen Party (NCP) will contest the upcoming national parliamentary election by forming an alliance with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and eight like-minded parties. As part of the seat-sharing negotiations, the NCP has sought 25 constituencies from Jamaat for the election.
A senior NCP leader confirmed the development to Bangladesh Pratidin on Monday afternoon.
According to party sources, several NCP leaders have expressed interest in contesting specific constituencies. These include:
Nahid Islam from Dhaka-11, Javed Rasin from Dhaka-09, Engineer Nabila Tahsin from Dhaka-20, Dilshana Parul from Dhaka-19, Nasiruddin Patwary from Dhaka-08, Sarjis Alam from Panchagarh-01, Abdul Ahad from Dinajpur-06, Akhtar Hossain from Rangpur-04, Atik Mujahid from Kurigram-02, and Saif Mustafiz from Sirajganj-06.
In addition, Dr. Jahedul from Netrokona, Ashrafuddin Mahdi from Brahmanbaria, Abdullah Al Amin from Narayanganj, Sujauddoula from Bandarban, Hasnat Abdullah from Cumilla, Hannan Masud from Noakhali, Arif Adib from Barishal, Dr. Mahmuda Mitu from Jhalokathi, Mahbub Alam from Lakshmipur, Sultan Zakaria from Noakhali, Sarwar Tushar from Narsingdi, Pritam Das from Moulvibazar, and Jobayrul Arif from Chattogram have also shown interest in contesting the election.
However, the specific constituencies for these 13 NCP leaders have not yet been finalized.
Sources further said that the NCP is also trying to reach an understanding with Jamaat to field candidates in five additional constituencies.
