Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has said that Bangladesh’s foreign policy will be formulated with the country’s interests and the welfare of its people as the top priority.
Speaking at a post-election press briefing held at a hotel in the capital on Saturday, Rahman emphasized that national interest would guide all external relations.
Responding to questions from foreign journalists, he said, “The interests of the people of this country come first. We will determine our foreign policy by giving due importance to safeguarding those interests.”
Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that party chairman Tarique Rahman would be the future Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He added that Rahman is expected to take on the leadership of the country within the next few days.
Among those present at the press conference were BNP Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Nazrul Islam Khan, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, among others.
