EC to Recount Votes in Selected Constituencies if Directed by Court

Bangladesh Election Commissioner Anowarul Islam Sarkar has stated that a decision to recount votes in various constituencies will be taken if the court issues directives based on filed applications. He made the remarks on Sunday while speaking to journalists at his office.

According to reports, the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded a recount of votes in 32 constituencies following the 13th National Parliamentary Election. In addition, several individual candidates have also submitted applications seeking vote recounts in a number of seats.

When asked about the applications, Commissioner Sarkar said the Election Commission would take necessary steps in accordance with the court’s instructions regarding the recount process.

The Commission is expected to proceed further depending on the court’s decision on the matter.
