Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has been arrested by Dubai Police in connection with a corruption case, following coordination with Interpol.
The arrest was confirmed by a senior police official on Sunday, and later officially announced in Parliament by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed during the afternoon session. The operation follows a Red Notice issued last April, initiated after a special court order sought international assistance to apprehend the fugitive official.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed four separate cases against Ahmed and his family in December 2024, alleging the concealment and illegal acquisition of assets valued at over 74 crore BDT. Following the July mass uprising, his name was included in a targeted international tracking request specifying financial crimes. Ahmed, who headed the national police force from 2020 to 2022, now faces legal repatriation processes to answer these significant corruption charges.
