A total of 17 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's official visit to China, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) spokesperson Mahdi Amin announced at a press conference on Friday.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Diaoyutai Hotel in Beijing, Mahdi Amin said the agreements were signed following bilateral talks between the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Chinese leadership on Thursday.

According to the PMO spokesperson, 13 of the MoUs were signed between ministries of the two governments in the presence of the two prime ministers. Three additional agreements were signed between the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and various Chinese stakeholders.

The remaining MoU was signed between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the political party currently leading the government in Bangladesh, and the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Summarizing the agreements, Mahdi Amin said the 17 MoUs comprise 13 government-to-government agreements, three investment-related agreements between BIDA and Chinese entities, and one political party-to-political party agreement.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in China on Monday night at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang. He first traveled to Dalian to attend two sessions of an international economic forum before flying to Beijing on Wednesday evening.

Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Humayun Kabir and Deputy Press Secretary Zahidur Islam Rony were also present at the press conference.
