Chowdhury Kaysar Mohammad Riyad, Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham Bangladesh), represented Bangladesh as part of the Asia-Pacific delegation at the AmChams of Asia Pacific (AAP) Washington Doorknock 2026, where he urged continued U.S. support for expanding investment in Bangladesh.

According to AmCham Bangladesh, the annual advocacy mission was held in Washington, D.C., from June 21 to 24. The event brought together business leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region with influential members of the U.S. Congress, senior officials from the Trump administration, and leading policy experts to discuss U.S. trade policy and economic engagement in the Indo-Pacific.

The annual forum aims to strengthen public-private partnerships and promote regional trade, investment, and economic cooperation through high-level strategic dialogue, seminars, and policy briefings.

Meetings with Senior U.S. Officials

During his visit, Riyad held bilateral meetings with several senior U.S. government officials, including:

  • Ambassador Rick Switzer, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) for Asia, Textiles, Investment, and Intellectual Property;
  • Hero Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Advocacy Center at the International Trade Administration under the U.S. Department of Commerce; and
  • Emory Cox, Special Assistant to the President for International Economic Affairs at the National Economic Council.

He also met with Representative Young Kim, Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific; Senator Steve Daines, a member of the Senate Subcommittee on International Trade and Global Competitiveness; and Senator Maggie Hassan, Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee.

Call for Increased Investment

During the meetings, Riyad called for continued U.S. support to encourage greater American investment in Bangladesh.

He also emphasized the need for a reasonable transition period for Bangladesh's ready-made garment sector to comply with emerging forced labor compliance requirements. In addition, he invited USTR officials to meet directly with AmCham Bangladesh members during their next visit to Bangladesh.

Riyad also sought the views of U.S. policymakers on Bangladesh's growing geopolitical importance within the Indo-Pacific strategy and discussed sectors with the greatest potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in the coming years.
