Ahmadullah Proposes Six-Point Plan for Safer Qawmi Madrasas

Islamic scholar and Chairman of As-Sunnah Foundation, Shaykh Ahmadullah, has proposed a six-point reform plan aimed at strengthening child protection, preserving public trust, and safeguarding the reputation of Bangladesh's Qawmi madrasa education system.

In a Facebook post published on Tuesday, Ahmadullah said that while it is unfair to blame the entire Qawmi education system for the actions of a few individuals, genuine problems must not be ignored. He stressed that perpetrators of child abuse must face exemplary punishment to maintain public confidence in religious educational institutions.

His proposals include establishing an independent central investigation committee, launching a confidential complaint hotline, installing CCTV cameras and improving infrastructure in madrasas, introducing a strict code of conduct and child protection training for teachers and staff, ensuring girls' madrasas are administered by female personnel, and bringing newly established institutions under effective regulatory oversight.

Ahmadullah said organizations such as Al-Haiatul Ulya and Befaq-ul-Madaris could play a key role by formulating policies, raising awareness, and strengthening oversight mechanisms.

He also called for self-reflection and institutional reform rather than defensiveness, urging religious leaders to work collectively to ensure a safer environment for children and to protect the integrity of Islamic education.
